Research suggests that eating nuts reduces the risk of fatal heart disease and stroke leading to a healthier heart. Nuts such as pistachios, walnuts, and almonds have been shown to lower the risk of heart attack as well as stroke.

Those who ate nuts two times per week were 17% less likely to develop cardiovascular disease.

Nuts are a great source of the healthy unsaturated fats that your body needs. Nuts also have vitamins, fiber, protein, phytosterols, and polyphenols that benefit heart health.

In this study presented at a summit of the world’s leading cardiologists regarding the risk of disease and death in the population of Iran a total of 5,432 adults 35 and up who never had shown cardiovascular issues were randomly selected.

The results: 751 cardiovascular events (594 coronary heart disease and 157 strokes), 179 cardiovascular deaths, and 458 all-cause deaths. The studied intake was comprised of almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, and mixed seeds. Participants were interviewed and checked in with every two years since 2013.

Make sure nuts are fresh.

Fats can oxidize over time making the nut taste stale and the oxidation potentially harmful. You can tell if nuts have gone rancid. They will smell bitter or taste sourer than a nut should.

Nuts also positively influence the brain and the rest of your body as well. They are a win-win nutrient-dense food. Healthier heart, mind, and body!

  • Nuts make a great grab and go snack
  • They are great on ice cream!
  • Bake nuts into bread, muffins, and cakes
  • They are delicious on yogurt, just add fruit!
  • Chopped nuts add very well to stuffing

There are numerous ways you can sneak nuts into your diet very easily even if you aren’t particularly a fan. Doing so may help your heart.
