If you suffer from varicose veins you may skim around online looking at various treatments wondering if they might be right for you. Without a proper consultation and visit with a qualified Vein Specialist, it is hard to decide if radiofrequency ablation or any other vein treatment will work for your specific case. What we can do is take a look at the symptoms and presentations that our patients display and see if yours match up. If so, you may very well benefit from this procedure.

Let’s take a look!

Radiofrequency ablation uses radiofrequency energy to heat up and collapse the damaged vein areas sealing off that route to any future blood flow. While that sounds kind of scary, the amazing fact is that the human body’s circulatory system will simply re-route the blood flow to the next available healthy working vein.

Ultrasound is used to view and map the veins to be treated. Once the veins are selected your doctor with then guide a thin catheter through a mini-incision. This is generally done as a point of entry through the groin area.

Once the catheter is in place electricity is delivered in short hot 20 second bursts. The heat contracts the collagen in the walls of the veins. This causes them to shut down, shrink, and be reabsorbed into the body. Once completed the catheter is withdrawn slowly and the blood flow will return and be re-directed.

This is a far less invasive alternative to vein stripping surgery. Radiofrequency ablation has been around since 1999 and has produced fantastic results for patients all over the world. It is a minimally invasive procedure which is performed under a local anesthetic. Normal activity is able to be resumed within just a couple of days.
